Every year, the State Board of Education adopts an annual legislative platform that guides the Board's advocacy work for the year. The Board approved its 2026 legislative platform during their regularly-scheduled meeting on October 2025 meeting.
For the 2026 session, the Board’s legislative platform recognizes the significant fiscal challenges facing the state. While acknowledging these pressures, the platform also reaffirms the state’s constitutional duty to amply fund public education and ensure that every child has access to a high-quality, equitable education. The platform reflects a focus on safeguarding recent progress while identifying opportunities to restore or strengthen critical investments, aligning with the Board’s mission to advance an equitable and inclusive education system that prepares every student to thrive in a changing world.
Priorities for the 2026 Legislative Session
Protect Recent Progress
- Prevent K–12 cuts that disproportionately harm underserved students.
- Protect civil rights gains, inclusive curricula, language access supports, student privacy rights, and current law on protected classes.
- Maintain investments that support student mental health, well-being, and a positive school climate.
Restore Critical Resources

High School and Beyond Plan Universal Platform
We support OSPI’s request to fund the legislative mandate for districts to move to the universal online platform for the High School and Beyond Plan, a graduation requirement for students. This investment ensures all students have equitable, consistent access to explore options and plan for their future.

School–community Partnerships
These partnerships play a critical role in helping students succeed, yet recent cuts have limited their ability to do so. In alignment with the Board’s work to ensure graduation requirements reflect a holistic approach to student success, we support OSPI’s request to reinstate funding for Treehouse’s Graduation Success Program. This program provides vital support to students in foster care and represents one targeted way to mitigate the impact of lost community resources.
