Do you have a concern about an approved private school?
We encourage parents, teachers, and private schools to work together to resolve disputes or questions about a school’s program or a student’s education. Individual private schools typically have a policy for addressing disagreements or complaints related to student discipline, bullying, and other concerns. Please refer to your student handbook or to your signed contract with the school for more information.
The State Board of Education’s role with private schools is limited, per RCW 28A.195.010: Private schools. However, a formal complaint procedure is outlined in WAC 180-90-170.
If your issue involves an entity that is not on our list of approved private schools but that is operating as a private school, you may wish to contact the Washington Attorney General's Consumer Protection division. A list of approved private schools can be found on this webpage.
If you feel a law or laws may have been broken and / or a child is at risk, contact your local law enforcement.
