The State Board of Education holds several responsibilities related to state assessments. They include:

Setting the scores students must achieve on statewide student assessments to meet or exceed state standards. Some of the assessment standards are used to determine progress on the Statewide indicators of educational system health and to determine schools’ and districts’ WSIF scores. (RCW 28A.305.130)

Setting the scores students must meet or exceed on state assessments in order to satisfy graduation pathway requirements. These tests include the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC), Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement (WA-AIM), the SAT/ACT, and the ASVAB. (RCW 28A.305.130)

Maintaining a list of standardized assessments approved under WAC 180-52-070 that a student can take to assess annual academic progress. You can find a list of approved assessments on our Home-based Instruction FAQ. (RCW 28A.200.010).

Setting scores needed to earn high school credit, in consultation with OSPI, for students in or released from an institutional educational facility who take a world language proficiency test, an American Sign Language proficiency test, or any General Education Development (GED) subject test. (RCW 28A.320.192)
