Governor Jay Inslee Appoints Dr. Susana Reyes to the State Board of Education

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Inslee has appointed Dr. Susana Reyes to the State Board of Education (SBE). She has dedicated her over twenty-year career to serving students and families across all areas of the education system.

Dr. Reyes currently serves as the assistant superintendent of operations and human resources for Pasco School District, and held previous educational leadership positions in Mead, Pullman, and Wapato school districts. Before entering district administration, she served as both an elementary bilingual teacher and principal.

“Dr. Reyes has a wealth of experience in providing educational leadership to communities all over the state,” Gov. Jay Inslee said. “She will bring important perspectives to the Board and will help represent the needs of underserved populations. She will be a great addition to the State Board of Education.”

Dr. Reyes is a member of the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Pasco, and a Governor appointee to the Washington Student Achievement Council. She is one of the founders of the soon-to-be Washington Association of Latino/a Administrators, which will be a state-affiliate of the national Association of Latino/a Administrators and Superintendents. Dr. Reyes is also the past president for the Washington Educational Research Association, and a member of both the American Association of School Administrators and Washington Association of School Administrators.

“As a current district administrator, I will bring to the Board a unique viewpoint representing one of our most important stakeholder groups,” Dr. Reyes said. “I look forward to utilizing my experience to work collaboratively with my fellow Board members to ensure all students receive the supports they need to be successful in education and in life.”

Dr. Reyes lives in Kennewick with her husband Lupe González. She holds the principal’s credential and superintendent’s credential from Washington State University, as well as a Doctor of Education from WSU.

Dr. Reyes will fill the appointed Position 5 on the 16-member State Board of Education and will serve through January 2022. Outgoing Board member is Dr. Alan Burke.
