OLYMPIA, Wash. – Autymn Wilde, a sophomore at Central Valley High School (CVHS) in Spokane Valley, is the new eastern Washington student representative to the Washington State Board of Education. She begins her two-year term with the Board on May 11, and will be sworn in at the July 11-12 Board meeting in Spokane.
“I am beyond enthusiastic to serve as the State Board Student Representative of Eastern Washington and give a voice to all students,” said Wilde. “I want to help expand policies to allow students to be uniquely themselves.”
Wilde has a passion for advocating on behalf of her peers. She is a member of the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) Executive Committee, CVHS student council, and the National Honors Society. She founded the Diabetes Club 1 & 2 at CVHS and is a Partners Advancing Character Education (PACE) ambassador. Outside of school, she participates in archery and enjoys reading.
Wilde’s appointment is the result of a competitive application process that culminated with panel interviews of potential candidates conducted by students from the AWSL Executive Committee. More information about SBE Board members can be found on the SBE website.
Board membership calls for two student representatives, one from eastern and one from western Washington. Wilde replaces outgoing eastern Washington student Board member Lindsey Salinas, a senior at Wellpinit High School, who will complete her two-year term with the Board at the May 9-10, 2018 meeting in Yakima. Wilde joins current western Washington student representative Joseph Hofman, a junior at Cascade High School in Everett. Hofman has just completed his first year as a student Board member.
