State Board of Education Unanimously Approves Spokane School District’s Charter Authorizer Application

YAKIMA, Wash. – The State Board of Education (SBE) unanimously voted to approve Spokane School District’s charter authorizer application under the state’s new charter school law at today’s board meeting. Spokane School District (Spokane) is the second largest school district in the state, and the first to apply to be a charter school authorizer.

The meeting will also address standards for approval for charter school authorizers, Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives for English Language Learners, Next Generation Science Standards, and CTE course equivalencies in Science.

State Board of Education to Hold Public Hearing on Draft Rules Related to State’s First Public Charter Schools

OLYMPIA, Wash. –The Washington State Board of Education’s February 26 meeting in Olympia, at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, will include a public hearing on draft rules pertinent to the state’s first public charter schools.

Bob Hughes (Kirkland) Reelected to the Washington State Board of Education

OLYMPIA, Wash. –Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn has certified that Bob Hughes of Kirkland, Washington, has won the election for a position on the State Board of Education.

Mr. Hughes won the election with 79 percent of the votes cast by Washington State local school board members. His new, four-year term will commence January 2013.
