Judy Jennings (Puyallup) Appointed to the Washington State Board of Education

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Private School Advisory Committee has appointed Judy Jennings (Puyallup) to serve on the Washington State Board of Education.

Ms. Jennings will fill a seat vacated by former private schools representative Jack Schuster (Ocean Shores). Her initial term commences with the May 8-9 State Board of Education meeting and will run through January 2014.

Ms. Jennings’ experience in education includes 13 years in Washington State public schools as a teacher and coach, 14 years as principal of Seattle Christian, and 13 years as Seattle Christian’s Superintendent. Before her retirement in 2011, Ms. Jennings served as the Executive Director of the Washington Federation of Independent Schools.

Ms. Jennings’ commitment to education has shaped much of her professional life. "I believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their optimum potential in life, and that their family, their school and their community have to work together to make that happen,” said Ms. Jennings. "That has been my goal and that is why I volunteered to become part of the State Board of Education.”

Ms. Jennings lives in Bonney Lake and has been married to her husband, Fran, for 46 years. They have two children and four grandchildren.

About the State Board of Education: The State Board of Education provides advocacy and strategic oversight of public education. The board is comprised of 16 members: five are elected by school board directors, seven are appointed by the Governor, two serve as student representatives, and one serves as a private school representative. The Superintendent of Public Instruction is also a member.
