OLYMPIA, Wash. – Baxter Hershman, a sophomore at Gig Harbor High School, is the new western Washington student representative to the Washington State Board of Education. He will attend the May 13-14, 2015 board meeting in Pasco and be sworn in at the July meeting in Seattle.

Hershman’s appointment is the result of a competitive application process that culminated with panel interviews of potential candidates conducted by students from the Washington Student Advisory Council (WASC).

Hershman has always had an interest in public service and is happy to be a part of the Board and a voice for students in western Washington. Hershman is committed to serving students in Washington state.

"I can hardly believe that I get this opportunity to serve on the State Board of Education,” said Hershman. "I cannot wait to begin working and making a difference.”

When not in school, Hershman enjoys participating in sports, volunteering his time for local nonprofits and teaching students in other countries English and life skills.
