State Board of Education to Consider Anti-Bullying Resolution

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Washington State Board of Education (SBE) will vote on an anti-bullying resolution at the Nov. 14-15 board meeting in Vancouver, at the ESD 112 office.

What:      State Board of Education Board Meeting

When:      8 am to 5:25 pm, Thursday, November 14
                 8 am to 3 pm, Friday, November 15

Where:     Educational Service District 112
                 Clark & Pacific rooms

                 Vancouver, WA 98661

SBE’s student board members, Mara Childs and Eli Ulmer, wrote a blog post (Stop Bullying Now: A Safe Learning Environment for All Students) and will give a presentation to the board about bullying. The board will consider adopting the student members’ anti-bullying resolution in support of the inclusion of students in anti-bullying policymaking.

"SBE takes bullying seriously,” said Childs. "We believe all students deserve to feel safe in the classroom, online, and at school sanctioned activities.”

About the State Board of Education: The State Board of Education provides advocacy and strategic oversight of public education. The board is comprised of 16 members: five are elected by school board directors, seven are appointed by the Governor, two serve as student representatives, and one serves as a private school representative.
